My Story

I grew up in Lutsen, MN and graduated in 1979 from Cook County High School. I worked quite a few jobs during high school as well as after I graduated. Some of the places I worked were, Solbakken, Lutsen Resort, Isak Hanson and Sons, Cliff Dweller Restaurant, Cascade Restaurant, to name a few. I did log with my dad for a few years after I graduated and before I went on to school.

I left the county for a few years to live in New Zealand where my husband, Steve, is from. We moved back to Lutsen and lived here for about seven years before we moved again to the Alexandria, MN area. We lived in the Alexandria area for 21+ years.

We, my husband and I, moved back to Cook County mid-June, 2019, and I started learning all the aspects of the window treatment business from/with Anna Latz. She was in the process of retiring from her business at Heavy Duty Sewing which she owned and operated since 1979. I purchased the Window Treatment portion of her business July 1, 2019. She began mentoring me in the window treatment business after I arrived in June and is still available to me when I have questions or need her assistance. The transition also included her moving all her machines and all the other parts of her business, such as the upholstery side and flooring, out of the current space. Jeff, Anna’s husband, set about remodeling the space which is absolutely wonderful.

Even though Anna has technically retired from her business, she is still doing small repair jobs. People can drop off their repairs here at the shop and Anna will pick them up.

I started with the window treatments and had to wait to start the quilt shop. I wanted to have the newest fabric and styles in the quilting side of the business which is scheduled to come out over the next year. I am getting more and more in every week and it is so fun to see the fabric.

I am looking forward to serving Cook County with window treatments and the quilt shop. It is good to be back home. Not a day goes by without giving thanks and praise to God for his beauty and creation of my community and roots in the county.
